Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has vowed that his administration will enforce a zero-tolerance policy toward electoral malpractice, stating that anyone involved in rigging even by a single vote will face imprisonment.

Obi made the declaration on Thursday while appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he outlined his vision for democratic governance, electoral integrity, and multi-party cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again: if I am the serving president of this country, whoever rigs elections will be in jail. Even for one vote, you will be in jail,” Obi stated.

Addressing concerns over political intimidation, the former Anambra State governor promised that opposition parties would not face state-sponsored harassment. Instead, he pledged to foster an inclusive political environment by inviting opposition stakeholders to participate in major national decisions, including policy choices made during presidential travels.

Obi also criticized the restrictions frequently imposed on opposition campaign activities in various states, emphasizing that all candidates should be granted the freedom to campaign regardless of political affiliations.
