Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Peter Obafemi, has said his 2027 Senate bid is aimed at promoting reforms, improving representation and addressing issues affecting the people of the district.
Obafemi, who contested the 2026 governorship election on the SDP platform, said his decision to seek a Senate seat reflected his continued commitment to public service.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Friday, the businessman and aviation professional described the Senate as a constitutional platform for addressing structural challenges affecting communities.
He said his proposed legislative agenda would focus on devolution of powers, fiscal oversight, rural infrastructure, youth enterprise and constitutional recognition of traditional institutions.
Obafemi said recognising traditional institutions constitutionally would strengthen the role of traditional rulers in community peace-building and grassroots security. He also pledged to support greater legislative oversight of public finances and the responsible management of public resources.
The SDP candidate said he would pursue federal intervention in rural roads and agro-processing, while promoting improved access to capital for farmers and traders across Ekiti North. He also proposed vocational training, technology adoption and enterprise financing programmes to address youth unemployment.
Ekiti North comprises Ikole, Oye, Ido-Osi, Moba and Ilejemeje Local Government Areas. Obafemi urged residents and SDP members in the district to support his campaign, saying his goal was to ensure that the district’s interests receive greater attention at the National Assembly.
