The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake an online publication claiming to be a special announcement by the commission concerning governorship candidates in six states.

The affected states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

INEC issued the clarification in a public notice on Monday, which was shared across its official social media platforms.

“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the publication is FAKE and did not originate from INEC,” the notice stated.

The commission urged Nigerians to disregard the publication and avoid sharing it, warning that claims suggesting it had issued a special announcement on governorship candidates in the affected states were false.

INEC advised the public to rely on its official notices, press releases and verified communication channels for accurate electoral information.

The commission listed its official website as inecnigeria.org, its X and Instagram handles as @inecnigeria, its Facebook page as INEC Nigeria, and its news portal as inecnews.com.
