The Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been named the recipient of the Executive Governor of the Year Award 2026 by Democracy Newsline Newspaper in recognition of his leadership and contributions to governance and development in the state.
According to the newspaper, the award is part of its annual initiative to recognise public office holders whose leadership, public service and development efforts attract attention at the state and national levels.
The Board and Management of Democracy Newsline Newspaper disclosed that the award would be formally presented to Yusuf at the Kano State Government House on a date to be announced.
The organisation said the governor’s selection reflects its commitment to celebrating public service and encouraging elected officials to implement policies and programmes that address the needs and aspirations of citizens.
Yusuf assumed office in May 2023 and currently oversees the affairs of Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most populous states and a major commercial centre in the northern region.
The newspaper explained that the Executive Governor of the Year Award recognises leadership and governance, with emphasis on public accountability, infrastructure development, social welfare, economic growth and improved service delivery.
It added that its annual awards programme provides an opportunity to highlight governance initiatives and encourage public office holders to remain committed to improving citizens’ welfare.
The Board and Management further stated that the award underscores the responsibility of elected leaders to translate their mandates into meaningful development outcomes that improve the lives of the people they serve.
The forthcoming presentation ceremony at the Kano State Government House is expected to provide an opportunity for the newspaper’s delegation to congratulate the governor and officially present the award.
Democracy Newsline Newspaper, led by its Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Chief Olugbemi Femi, organises public lectures, induction ceremonies and awards to recognise individuals and institutions across Nigeria for their contributions to governance, business, community development and national progress.
The newspaper congratulated Yusuf on the recognition, expressing hope that the award would further encourage his commitment to responsible leadership, democratic governance and the sustainable development of Kano State.
The date for the official presentation of the award will be announced in due course.
