Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, the member representing Gembu Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, has denied involvement in the suspension of Alhaji Babaji Abubakar Garba Jugulde as district head of Wurbo Gashiri in Sardauna Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Aliyu Njidda Abdullahi, Titong described allegations linking him to the decision as unsubstantiated and challenged those making the claims to provide verifiable evidence.
The lawmaker also demanded a public apology from the author of the allegations for reportedly describing him as a “bloody coward.”
Titong maintained that his legislative responsibilities centred on lawmaking, constituency representation and community development, rather than the administration of traditional institutions or decisions on chieftaincy matters.
“Attributing the suspension of a traditional ruler to the lawmaker without credible evidence was misleading and unfair,” the statement said.
It added that decisions concerning traditional institutions should be assessed in line with applicable laws, established customs and relevant administrative procedures. The statement also cautioned against drawing conclusions about the suspension without understanding the circumstances surrounding the decision.
The statement referenced controversies involving traditional rulers in Kano, Bauchi and Zamfara states, stressing that each case should be assessed on its own merits and circumstances.
Titong’s aide expressed concern that the dispute could distract from issues requiring unity, effective representation, peace and sustainable development in Gembu Constituency.
The statement urged political actors and social media users to promote issue-based discussions as preparations for the 2027 general elections approach. It acknowledged the importance of constructive criticism of public officials but stressed that allegations should be factual and expressed with civility.
The author was urged to withdraw the claim linking Titong to Jugulde’s suspension unless credible evidence could be provided. The statement also called on social media commentators to verify information before making allegations against public officials.
