The Kwara State House of Assembly has confirmed two commissioner-nominees, Hon. Dr. Abdulafeez Abolore Alabi and Hon. Jimoh Ali Yusuf, following their screening during plenary on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The House also received a petition over a disputed parcel of land in Ganiki, Ilorin.
The plenary session was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu. Proceedings began with an opening prayer, after which lawmakers examined and approved the Votes and Proceedings of Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Land Dispute Petition
During the session, Hon. Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba, who represents Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe Constituency, presented a petition titled “Save Our Soul” on behalf of residents and landowners in the Ganiki community.
The petition alleged that more than 500 landowners behind Journalist Estate, Ganiki, Ilorin, purchased plots from various vendors around 2019. The vendors reportedly included Magaji Alapaarun, Bolakale Seriki, Yunusa Olosun, representing the Olosun family, and Alhaji Yahaya Atanda Serikin Gambari. According to the petitioners, agreements were executed, possession was taken, and some plots had already been developed.
The petitioners further alleged that on August 1, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force Property Development and Construction Company Limited approached them, claiming ownership of the entire parcel of land. The company reportedly cited a 2019 Kwara State High Court judgment in favour of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Assembly formally received the petition and referred it to the House Committee on Lands for consideration, directing the committee to report back as soon as possible.
Commissioner-Nominees Confirmed
Under the Order of the Day, lawmakers screened Alabi and Yusuf following a request by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their appointment as commissioners. Both nominees appeared before the House during the Committee of the Whole proceedings.
Following the screening, the Assembly confirmed both nominees for appointment as commissioners. The Speaker subsequently directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the confirmations to the governor.
The plenary ended after the House Leader, Hon. Magaji Oba Abdulkadir, representing Ilorin Central Constituency, moved a motion for adjournment, which was seconded by Hon. Muhammed Kareem Musa of Patigi Constituency.
