Former Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretary Funmilayo Ogun has pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 following her defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogun, a former state commissioner for works, said her decision to join the APC was aimed at strengthening the party’s support base and advancing her political career.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, she described the APC as the best platform through which she could contribute to governance and deliver benefits to the people.
“I am really committed to joining the party to rally support for President Bola Tinubu to win the 2027 re-election and to also help Governor Oyebanji achieve his agenda for the state,” she said.
Ogun added that she had joined the APC with her supporters across Ekiti State and planned to begin campaigns across the wards in Ido/Osi Local Government Area in collaboration with existing party leaders.
She said her more than 16 years of private-sector experience, coupled with her tenure as commissioner for works under former Governor Ayodele Fayose, had equipped her to contribute to the party.
Ogun also acknowledged former governors Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Fayose for their leadership and support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts to develop the state.
Receiving Ogun and her supporters on behalf of the party’s state leadership, Ido/Osi APC chairman Adewumi Aina described her defection as a significant addition to the party.
Aina urged existing members to welcome the new entrants and ensure they enjoyed equal rights and privileges, warning against discrimination within the party.
