Ghana Police Arrest Three Nigerians Over Kumasi Bank Robberies

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate linked to a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command identified the suspects as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35. Their arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by an Inspector-General of Police Special Team on October 31, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, by the command’s Public Affairs Unit head, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, officers arrested Promise and Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo at about 11:30 p.m.

A search of their rooms reportedly led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.

The police said the two suspects admitted involvement in the robberies during interrogation and identified two alleged accomplices, Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.

The suspects reportedly led officers to another hotel in Dechemso, where Kingsley was arrested. However, Chinedu remains at large, with the police appealing to the public for information that could lead to his arrest.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before attacking and robbing them. They also allegedly used the master key to break into unattended vehicles and steal cash.

The police said the suspects admitted robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank. They also reportedly confessed to similar attacks at Fidelity Bank’s Atonsu branch, Access Bank’s Ahodwo branch and other locations in Kumasi.

The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations. The police urged anyone with information about the fleeing suspect to contact the nearest police station or call 191, 112 or 18555.

The command also advised bank customers to remain alert around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or valuables unattended in their vehicles.
