COAS SHAIBU APPROVES NEW GOCs FOR 9 DIV ILORIN, 10 DIV JALINGO, OTHERS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for the newly established Nigerian Army Divisions.

The appointments follow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of four additional Divisions as part of efforts to strengthen the Army’s force structure, expand operational reach, and improve response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

NEW DIVISIONAL STRUCTURE
Under the reorganisation, the Nigerian Army will now operate 13 Divisions:

1 Division Kaduna: Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa
2 Division Ibadan: Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo
3 Division Jos: Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe
5 Division Makurdi: Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi
6 Division Port Harcourt: Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River
7 Division Maiduguri: Borno, Yobe
8 Division Sokoto: Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara
9 Division Ilorin: Kwara, Niger
10 Division Jalingo: Taraba, Adamawa border areas
81 Division Lagos: Lagos, Ogun
82 Division Enugu: Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo
83 Division Benin: Edo, Delta, Bayelsa to be activated later in the year

The new Divisions will commence operations immediately upon attaining Initial Operational Capability, with phased measures to reach full Operational Capability.

NEW GOCs APPOINTED

The COAS also approved key redeployments:
Major General Yakubu Yahaya — from HQ Joint Task Force OPSS to GOC 9 Division, Ilorin and Commander, Operation SAVANNA SHIELD

Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife from HQ 2 Division/Sector 3 OP FANSAN YAMMA to GOC 10 Division, Jalingo

Major General Moses Gara — from HQ OP WHIRL STROKE to *GOC 5 Division, Makurdi and Commander, OP WHIRL STROKE

Major General Auwalu Mahmuda — from Army HQ Directorate of Inspection and Compliance to GOC 2 Division, Ibadan
