The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has debunked a report claiming that the Sultan endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
In a statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the team described the report circulating on social media as false, malicious and an attempt to drag the revered monarch into partisan politics.
The team said it is impossible for the Sultan, as “the father of all”, to declare support for any political candidate publicly or privately.
“The institutions of monarchy and religion led by the Sultan are institutions of a father figure. His Eminence cannot but remain within that role by offering fatherly, royal and spiritual blessings, as well as guidance, to Nigerian politicians who seek his counsel,” the statement read.
It added that the Sultan’s doors remain open to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, and that he has consistently related with everyone without discrimination.
The Media Team urged Nigerians to disregard and condemn what it called an unpatriotic attempt to misrepresent the Sultan’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It stressed that the Sultan remains committed to promoting peace, unity, stability and peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse peoples and faiths.
The team also called on journalists and social media users to verify information before sharing reports that could mislead the public or drag traditional and religious institutions into political controversies.
