The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has praised former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for donating a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser, ₦5 million and other support items to the newly inaugurated Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Dansuki.
In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP described Saraki’s gesture as an example of responsible and people-oriented leadership.
The party noted that Saraki visited the Chief Imam immediately after arriving in Ilorin to congratulate him on his appointment before presenting the vehicle, cash donation and other logistical support to assist him in carrying out his religious and community responsibilities.
The PDP, however, criticised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alleging that he had yet to fulfil a reported promise made about two months ago to provide a vehicle for the Chief Imam. The party described the development as evidence of what it called an “absentee style of leadership.”
It also claimed that residents should not be surprised if the state government hurriedly presents a vehicle to the Chief Imam in response to Saraki’s donation.
“For close to two months, the welfare needs of the Chief Imam received no attention from the Governor despite his promise. It would be unfortunate if the government suddenly acts only after Dr. Saraki has demonstrated what genuine leadership looks like,” the statement said.
The PDP maintained that the Ilorin Emirate remains one of Nigeria’s foremost Islamic centres and stressed that supporting its religious institutions contributes to peace, unity and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
According to the party, Saraki’s intervention reflects values of compassion, service and respect for traditional and religious institutions, while underscoring his long-standing commitment to the welfare of the people.
The PDP urged residents of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwarans to continue supporting Saraki’s community-focused initiatives and to rally behind the party, which it described as a credible alternative committed to responsible leadership.
