Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, engaged in a heated exchange with Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye during a live interview on Wednesday over questions about the economic policies of the immediate past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The discussion focused on the previous government’s monetary decisions, including the printing of money, which economists have linked to rising inflation and broader economic challenges.
Defending the current administration, Kalu argued that the Buhari government also made policy decisions that affected the economy, including the forward sale of crude oil.
“The previous government front-loaded some of the oil. Some crude oil was sold,” he said, adding, “They printed money and we questioned them.”
As Okinbaloye continued to question him on the issue, the interview became tense, with the senator accusing the journalist of being confrontational.
“You can’t call people here to harass them. You can’t harass me. This is no longer an interview,” Kalu said during the live broadcast.
The exchange occurred amid a wider discussion on the economic challenges inherited by the current administration and the impact of past fiscal and monetary policies on Nigeria’s economy.
