Thirteen of the 176 residents abducted by armed bandits in Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State remain missing, about six months after the attack.

National Chairman of the Kaiama Department Association (KDA), Yakubu Salihu, disclosed this on Thursday, saying 163 of the abducted residents, mostly women and children, were released on Wednesday.

“One hundred and seventy-six people were taken away, but only 163 were released. That leaves 13 people still missing. Where are the others?” Salihu said.

The communities were attacked on February 3, 2026, in an incident in which more than 100 people were reportedly killed and 176 residents abducted.

Salihu said some of the women gave birth while in captivity, describing the development as a painful reminder of the ordeal endured by the victims during their months in captivity.

He said the freed victims were currently in Niger State and were expected to return to Kwara by Saturday for medical attention, rehabilitation and resettlement support.

The KDA chairman urged the Federal Government to accelerate plans to establish a Nigerian Army battalion in Kaiama, arguing that the limited number of security personnel in the area had left communities vulnerable to further attacks.

He said the community was prepared to provide land and other support required for the military base to begin operations, adding that a permanent military presence would improve response time and help restore residents’ confidence.

Salihu also called for the rehabilitation of roads in Kaiama Local Government Area, saying the poor condition of the network was hampering security operations and limiting economic activities in the area.
