The Fulani Youths Movement, FYM, has warned ethnic youth groups in Plateau State against further attacks on Fulani herders, saying it will no longer remain silent over the alleged killings and destruction of their livelihoods.

The group issued the warning after its inaugural meeting in Jos on Friday, citing reported attacks on herders in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas.

In a communique signed by its convener, Adams Jouro, the group alleged that Fulani communities had suffered significant losses despite reports accusing herders of perpetrating violence across the state.

Jouro claimed that hundreds of Fulani residents had been killed and thousands of cattle either killed or stolen since the beginning of the year.

“Contrary to biased media reports pushed out daily, the Fulani herding communities have suffered more in the hands of local ethnic gangs, especially the Berom militias,” he said.

The group acknowledged that criminal elements exist within the Fulani community but argued that innocent herders should not be targeted because of the actions of individuals.

“We will no longer sit back and watch innocent herders killed for the sins of a few criminals,” the communique stated.

The FYM called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to establish independent investigative panels to assess alleged attacks and losses suffered by Fulani communities and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The group said the recurring violence had caused significant human and economic losses and called for urgent action to prevent further attacks. “For now, we say enough is enough,” it added.
