The Edo State Government has criticised music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his appeal to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Speaking during a press briefing in Benin City on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, said the singer should concentrate on his music career rather than becoming involved in partisan politics.
Davido had earlier urged Trump and other international observers to pay attention to the election amid concerns about possible violence and voter intimidation.
The singer’s comments sparked reactions as political activities intensified ahead of the governorship poll, which has attracted significant public attention.
The Edo State Government maintained that political matters should be handled through established democratic institutions, while reiterating its criticism of Davido’s intervention in the electoral process.
