At least seven countries have secured places in the intercontinental play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with Ghana and South Africa confirmed as Africa’s representatives.

Ghana booked its place after defeating Ivory Coast, while South Africa overcame Nigeria to secure the continent’s second slot.

The two African teams will join Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Venezuela and Papua New Guinea in the first round of the play-offs.

Only two teams from the first-round fixtures will progress to the final stage.

They will then be joined by four teams from UEFA, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), which have been exempted from the opening round.

The six teams will be drawn into three separate paths, with each path featuring a single knockout match.

The three winners of those matches will secure the final three qualification spots for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
