The Senate has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Chair of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations. Newsmen gathered that She has been replaced by Senator Aniekan Bassey (APC, Akwa Ibom North), with the change taking immediate effect, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Recall that Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for alleged gross misconduct and violations of Senate rules, a suspension that has since drawn both legal and political scrutiny.
Last week, a Federal High Court in Abuja imposed a N5 million fine on her for contempt of court and ordered her to publicly apologize to the Senate through national newspapers and social media, while Earlier this week, another court ruling upheld the Senate’s authority to suspend members for misconduct.
However Both parties have said they will examine the Certified True Copy of the latest judgment before deciding on further legal or legislative action.
