Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election less than 24 hours after his victory in the state governorship election.
Sowore made the remarks in a post on his official X account on Monday, August 17, 2026, while questioning the violence and deaths reported before and during the election.
He alleged that nearly 50 people were killed in election-related violence and criticised political leaders for what he described as a lack of accountability over the deaths.
“These evil people had to sacrifice close to 50 lives in violence before and during the Osun election, all just to prove that ‘agreement is agreement,’” Sowore wrote.
He also questioned Adeleke’s decision to back Tinubu’s re-election bid, alleging that the endorsement was influenced by their shared Yoruba identity.
Sowore wrote that Adeleke’s decision came less than a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of the election.
He demanded an investigation into the reported deaths and asked who was responsible for the violence and whether anyone had been held accountable.
“Who killed them? Who ordered or enabled the violence? Who is investigating their deaths? Where is the justice for their families?” he asked.
The activist’s comments come amid political reactions to Adeleke’s victory and his subsequent endorsement of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
