Motorists in Abuja are paying more for petrol after MRS filling stations and other major marketers increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

A market survey on Saturday showed that MRS stations along the Kubwa and Lugbe expressways, as well as other locations in Abuja, raised the price of petrol from N1,210 to N1,230 per litre.

Other marketers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Rainoil, Empire Energy and the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, also adjusted their prices, with petrol now selling between N1,250 and N1,299 per litre.

The latest adjustment represents an increase of N20 per litre across several filling stations in the territory.

A manager at an MRS filling station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the company received instructions from its headquarters in Lagos to implement the new price.

“We got the directive to raise our price by N20 to N1,230 per litre on Friday, but no reason was given,” the manager said.

The increase follows Dangote Refinery’s decision on Friday to raise its petrol gantry price from N1,165 to N1,185 per litre.

The latest price hike comes as Brent crude oil climbed above $94 per barrel, putting renewed pressure on fuel prices in the domestic market.

The development reverses recent reductions in petrol prices, which had fallen by about N90 per litre over the past few weeks after Dangote Refinery earlier reduced its gantry price.
