Politician and women’s rights advocate Mary Idele has pledged to lead grassroots mobilisation of Nigerian women for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Idele, who was appointed Secretary of the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, said she would draw on her experience in grassroots mobilisation, women’s empowerment and organisational coordination to deliver on the assignment.

In a statement on today, she thanked Tinubu for the confidence placed in her, describing the appointment as both a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to his re-election campaign.

“I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for the confidence and trust reposed in me through this appointment. I accept the responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty,” Idele said.

She said the directorate would work with women leaders, party officials and other stakeholders to strengthen coordination and participation, with particular attention to communities and local government areas.

Idele stressed that effective mobilisation would require sustained grassroots engagement rather than relying solely on national-level political structures.

“I am committed to working with our women across the country to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, deepen engagement and ensure that the women’s wing of the campaign council delivers effectively on its mandate,” she said.

She added that the campaign would pursue a coordinated and strategic approach to mobilising women in support of Tinubu and the APC’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Her appointment comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general election, with the ruling APC seeking to consolidate its structures and expand support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Women are expected to remain a key constituency in the campaign because of their significant role in Nigeria’s electorate and community-level political organisation.
