Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has said his decision to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is driven by his commitment to the people of Kwara State, as he urged party members to strengthen grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Saraki spoke during the PDP Kwara South Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Ilorin. The meeting was attended by the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, deputy governorship candidate Rev. C.O.S. Fawenu, state party executives led by Chairman Isa Adamu Bawa, party elders and other stakeholders.

He commended members in Kwara South for their loyalty, sacrifices and continued support for the PDP, expressing confidence that the party’s candidates would provide purposeful leadership if elected.

Saraki stressed that the party’s success in 2027 would depend largely on effective grassroots mobilisation and strong polling unit structures across the state.

“Hold your base and polling units. That is what the party requires from everyone. Our collective commitment and resolve will do the job. Ensure you do everything possible at your polling units,” he told party members.

The former Senate President also urged the PDP to learn from recent governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states, saying political victories are increasingly determined by organisation, voter engagement and grassroots participation.

He assured members that their commitment and contributions to the party would be recognised, urging them to remain united and focused on the party’s collective goal.

Saraki expressed confidence that the PDP is well-positioned for victory in Kwara State, declaring that the party’s governorship candidate would emerge victorious in the 2027 election.

Explaining why he has remained with the PDP despite recent political developments, Saraki said his decision was based on his responsibility to the people of Kwara State.

“My staying back in PDP is for my people in Kwara,” he said.
