British singer and rapper Khyra Wilson, known professionally as Kwn, has revealed that she is half-Nigerian, correcting a common assumption that she is Jamaican because of her music and Caribbean cultural influences.

Speaking on the Culture podcast, Kwn said her sound and cultural identity were shaped by growing up around Caribbean culture, which has often led people to assume she is from the Caribbean.

The “Worst Behaviour” hitmaker said her father is Nigerian, while her mother is Irish.

Kwn said people are often surprised when she tells them she is Nigerian, noting that few have correctly guessed her heritage.

“I am half-Nigerian. Everyone thinks I am Jamaican but I am not. I grew up around Caribbean culture so people assume I am from the Caribbean,” she said.

The singer also revealed that she has never visited Nigeria but said she expects to receive a warm welcome when she eventually travels to the country.

“But I have never been to Nigeria before. I know they are going to love me when I go over there,” she said.
