The Kwara State Fire Service has advised motorists to avoid part of Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Ilorin following a road crash involving two vehicles, one of which was reportedly carrying multiple 50kg cooking gas cylinders.

The incident occurred around the Stadium Complex Gate and the frontage of Bekki & Sons Ltd., affecting motorists travelling from Baboko, Surulere, Adewole and adjoining areas toward Ibrahim Taiwo Road.

According to the Fire Service, the second vehicle involved in the crash was leaking petroleum, raising concerns over the risk of fire or further escalation because of the presence of highly flammable materials.

Motorists approaching the affected section have been advised to use alternative routes until the area is declared safe for normal traffic.

Fire Service personnel are currently at the scene working to contain the situation and prevent further danger.

Motorists using the opposite side of the road have also been urged to reduce their speed, exercise extreme caution and comply with directions from emergency personnel.

The Fire Service warned pedestrians, passersby and onlookers to stay away from the scene, noting that unnecessary gatherings could obstruct emergency operations and expose people to avoidable risks.

The agency said it would provide a further update once the area has been confirmed safe for traffic.
