Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins says he will fund and organise a youth football tournament in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Martins disclosed this in an interview with TVC on Thursday, saying the tournament, tagged the “Renewed Hope Youth Tournament”, is scheduled for November.

According to the former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward, the competition will feature teams representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, alongside two or three additional teams.

“There’s a tournament that I’m doing for His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu that I’m doing for his campaign, the Renewed Hope Youth Tournament,” Martins said.

He said the initiative was intended not only to support Tinubu but also to create opportunities for young Nigerians.

“I’m just happy to do it for the president with all his hard work and all that. And that is not just for the president, it’s for the Nigerians and the Nigerian youth as well; how we can help them,” he said.

Martins confirmed that he would personally finance the tournament and reiterated that it would take place in November.

The “Renewed Hope” slogan was used by Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima during their 2023 presidential campaign. The administration has since adopted the phrase for several government programmes, while groups supporting Tinubu’s 2027 bid have also used it in their political mobilisation efforts.
