Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prominent Nigerian businessman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has died at the age of 90.

Tukur died on Saturday at his residence in Abuja after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed to TRT Afrika.

His burial is expected to take place on Saturday at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa in Yola, Adamawa State.

Tukur is survived by 17 children.

He served as governor of the former Gongola State during Nigeria’s Second Republic. The state was later divided into present-day Adamawa and Taraba states.

Tukur subsequently served as Minister of Industries under the military government of General Sani Abacha and later sought to contest the Nigerian presidency.

He went on to serve as national chairman of the PDP, becoming a prominent figure in the party’s leadership and Nigeria’s political affairs.

His death marks the passing of a veteran politician and businessman who held several influential positions in Nigeria’s public life.
