
The release of the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified the contest for Nigeria’s 109 senatorial seats.
The publication of the list provides political parties and candidates with a clearer picture of the contenders ahead of the February 2027 elections, with campaigns and mobilisation expected to increase in the coming months.
The race features serving and former lawmakers, governors whose terms will end in 2027, political newcomers and other aspirants seeking seats in the next National Assembly.
In Abia, the senatorial contests include Kalu Orji Uzor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia North, while Abia Central features Atuma Emeka of the APC. Abia South includes Ikonne Paul of the APC and Enyinnaya Abaribe of the Labour Party among the listed candidates.
Several other states also feature prominent political figures. In Adamawa North, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is listed as the APC candidate, while Bauchi South features Governor Bala Mohammed on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement.
In Delta North, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is listed as the APC candidate, while Edo North features former Governor and incumbent senator Adams Oshiomhole of the APC.
Other notable candidates include Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the APC in Kwara Central, Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun East, Governor Abdullahi Sule in Nasarawa North, Governor Mai Mala Buni in Yobe East and Governor Hope Uzodimma in Imo West.
The final list has formally placed the candidates in the electoral spotlight as political parties prepare to intensify campaigns ahead of the 2027 poll.
