The Media Adviser to the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Mohammed Abdulkadri, has called for improved collection and management of accurate national data to strengthen policymaking and development planning in Nigeria.

Abdulkadri made the call in Abuja while receiving the 2026 Spectacular Achievers Award from the All Progressive Support Initiative (APSI).

He said reliable data on Nigeria’s population, professional workforce and other key sectors was essential for informed decision-making and effective national planning.

According to him, accurate data would enable policymakers to better address challenges in areas such as economic development, transportation, industrialisation and public policy.

Abdulkadri also urged APSI to make data an integral part of its development agenda, particularly by improving information on women and their participation in national affairs.

He said comprehensive population data would help government identify development gaps and formulate more effective interventions.

Presenting the award, APSI Human Resource Director and Kogi State Coordinator, Ayokunle Ajayi, said the organisation recognised Nigerians with proven experience and capacity to contribute to national development.

Representing the APSI Chairman, Noah Akobona, Ajayi highlighted Abdulkadri’s career with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), his coverage of the National Assembly and defence sector, and his service as Special Adviser on Media to former Defence Minister, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.).

He also noted Abdulkadri’s involvement in a presidential think-tank on barracks rehabilitation and his current role at NILDS.

Abdulkadri described the award as recognition of his years of service and a renewed responsibility to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
