The Benue State Police Command has presented insurance cheques to the families of police officers who died in the line of duty.

The presentation took place on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi as part of an initiative by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu to support families of officers who lost their lives while serving the country.

According to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, the initiative is intended to provide financial relief to the bereaved families.

Presenting the cheques, the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiobu, conveyed the condolences and goodwill of the Inspector-General to the beneficiaries.

Nwadiobu said no financial assistance could compensate for the loss of a loved one, but noted that the insurance benefits were designed to ease some of the financial burden on the affected families.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, particularly to meet immediate needs and support the welfare and education of the children left behind by the deceased officers.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families.

He said the command would continue to support initiatives of the Inspector-General aimed at assisting officers and families affected by deaths arising from service.
