The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Kwara State Office, has urged Nigerians of all ages to enrol for the National Identification Number, NIN, describing it as a key requirement for accessing essential services.
The call was made on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as the Commission marked the International Identity Day with an awareness campaign. The event was covered by Emirate 98.5 FM and reported by Ruqayya Suleiman Ummu.
As part of activities marking the National Identity Day, our repor gathered that NIMC officials and management embarked on an awareness walk to sensitize members of the public on the importance of obtaining a NIN and to encourage those yet to enrol to do so.
Speaking during the exercise, the Kwara State Coordinator of NIMC, Mr. Idris Abubakar Mohammed, said September 16 is observed annually as International Identity Day.
He encouraged Nigerians, including children, adults and the elderly, to come forward for enrolment, stressing the importance of having a verifiable identity.
Also speaking, Mr. Abubakar Salahudeen said Nigeria is among the countries that have adopted International Identity Day.
He urged residents to obtain their NIN, noting that it is required for various activities, including opening bank accounts and processing educational services such as JAMB and WAEC.
He therefore stressed that a national identity is also necessary when individuals need to resolve or rectify issues relating to their official records.
