The Executive Chairman of Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Uno Etim, has approved a monthly stipend of N20,000 for each National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member deployed to the area.

Chief Uno announced the approval on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by corps members at the council headquarters. The payment takes immediate effect.

Addressing the corps members, the chairman urged them to consider the local government area their home for the duration of their service year. He assured them of the council’s backing to help them discharge their duties effectively.

“Expect necessary support which will enable you to discharge your responsibilities effectively. For you to be posted here, consider this area your home for the duration of your service year,” Chief Uno stated.

Beyond the financial allowance, the chairman promised prompt attention to concerns regarding accommodation and general welfare. He directed the council’s Works Department to immediately inspect corps lodges and identify areas requiring renovation or other infrastructure interventions.

Chief Uno described the initiative as a practical expression of his administration’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians who contribute their time, skills, and energy to grassroots development.

He urged the youth to remain dedicated to their primary assignments, assuring them that their safety, welfare, and a peaceful service year remain top priorities for his administration.

Responding on behalf of the corps members, the Community Liaison Officer, Ukachukwu Ifeanyi, thanked the chairman for the gesture and commended the ongoing development initiatives of his administration across the locality.
