Kano Pillars delivered a dominant performance on Sunday, sweeping league leaders Doma United FC aside with a 4-1 victory in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 4 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when defender Abdullahi Musa met a precise cross from Fahad Usman with a firm header.

Captain Rabiu Ali doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute. Although he initially missed from the penalty spot, Ali reacted quickest to slot home the rebound and put Pillars firmly in control before halftime.

Doma United regrouped after the break and narrowed the deficit in the 53rd minute through Nnamdi Agu, temporarily sparking hopes of a fightback.

However, Kano Pillars extinguished any thoughts of a comeback in the 77th minute. Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa latched onto a well-weighted through pass from Ubong Friday and calmly beat the goalkeeper to restore a two-goal cushion.

Technical Adviser Daniel Ogbunmodede introduced fresh legs late in the game, and substitute Nasiru Salihu capped the victory by scoring in stoppage time to complete the 4-1 rout.

Ahmed Musa earned the Man of the Match accolade for his stellar display. Reflecting on the result after the final whistle, the forward emphasized the team’s rigorous preparation and determination to move past last season’s struggles.

“We prepared very well for this game, and we got the result we wanted. Last season was difficult for us, but we have put that behind us and are fully focused on this campaign,” Musa said.

Ogbunmodede expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting improvements in his team’s defensive discipline compared to previous outings against Niger Tornadoes and Kwara United. He also praised the supporters for creating an inspiring atmosphere at the stadium.

With momentum firmly on their side, Sai Masu Gida will now turn their attention to a midweek away fixture against Inter FC in Lagos as they look to sustain their strong start to the season.
