The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticized President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for leaving the country simultaneously without formally transferring power.

President Tinubu departed on August 30 for a working vacation in Europe as part of his annual leave, while Vice President Shettima left Abuja on Saturday to represent Nigeria at the ongoing 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Reacting via a post on his official Facebook page on Monday, Sowore questioned the governance vacuum created by their concurrent absences.

“Tinubu has been away for more than 21 days, allegedly on vacation. The VP Kashim Shettima has also left Nigeria for UNGA, with no handover notes in sight. Who is in charge of Nigeria at the moment?” Sowore wrote.

Constitutional guidelines require formal transmission of power when executive leaders are away, a concern raised by critics amid the ongoing travels of both top officials.
