Ima Gas Project FID Signals Growing Investor Confidence in Nigeria

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has hailed the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ima Gas Development Project as proof of renewed global confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The joint venture by AMNI International Petroleum Development Company Limited and TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited underscores the growing attractiveness of the industry, which Lokpobiri attributed to recent federal reforms aimed at enhancing policy predictability, regulatory certainty, and investor incentives.

Expected to come on stream in 2028, the Ima project will produce approximately 350 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. The output is earmarked to supply Nigeria LNG’s operations, fulfilling roughly one-third of the feed-gas requirements for Train 7.

Lokpobiri noted that the Ima commitment joins a series of major upstream investments secured under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, including the $550 million Ubeta project, the $5 billion Bonga North development, and Shell’s $2 billion HI development.

The minister encouraged further capital commitments to boost domestic energy production and maximize value across the petroleum industry, emphasizing that continued investment remains vital to unlocking Nigeria’s vast gas resources.
