Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a goodwill message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio called for greater love, unity and faith in Nigeria’s future, describing the country as “our destiny, our duty, our future.”
He said Nigeria’s 66-year journey had been marked by both achievements and challenges, with periods of optimism as well as uncertainty. Despite these difficulties, he said Nigerians had continued to work, serve their communities and believe in the country.
“Nigeria lives in the farmer tending the soil, the teacher shaping a mind, the entrepreneur creating opportunity and the young person daring to dream,” Akpabio said.
The Senate president said the National Assembly would continue to support efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to strengthen the country and improve the welfare of citizens.
Reflecting on independence, Akpabio said the raising of Nigeria’s flag 66 years ago represented the hopes of millions for freedom, self-government and the ability to determine the nation’s future.
He urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to renew their commitment to national service, integrity, compassion and unity.
“On behalf of the Senate, the 10th National Assembly and my family, I extend warm felicitations to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Nigerians everywhere on our 66th Independence Anniversary,” he said.
Akpabio prayed for God’s continued guidance for the country’s leaders, blessings for Nigerian families and the preservation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
