The Accord Party in Ogun State has inaugurated a 13-member campaign council ahead of the 2027 governorship election and pledged to create 550,000 jobs if elected.
The party unveiled the council on Friday at its state secretariat, with its chairman, Rotimi Oke, saying the body would coordinate campaign activities across the state.
Oke said the party had reviewed the programmes of other parties preparing for the election and would present what he described as an alternative agenda to Ogun voters.
The campaign council will be chaired by the party’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Olaniyi Agbongboakala, with Oke as vice-chairman. Toyin Azeez was named Director-General, while Dasaolu Babatunde will serve as Deputy Director-General and Ayodeji Daodu as secretary.
Other members will oversee protocol, logistics, mobilisation, special duties, communications, women’s mobilisation and youth mobilisation.
Oke urged council members to mobilise support for the party and criticised the All Progressives Congress-led state government over its record in office.
The party also honoured a recently retired traffic warden, DST Hanifat Bello, for what it described as exemplary service during her 35 years with the Ogun State Police Command. Bello received an Award of Excellence, a cash gift and a deep freezer.
Agbongboakala said an Accord administration would prioritise road rehabilitation, education, healthcare, poverty reduction and youth empowerment. He pledged to create 550,000 jobs during his first four years through sectors including the blue, green and circular economies, the real sector and the creative industry.
He also promised to pay pensioners’ gratuities within 90 days of retirement and improve workers’ remuneration. In addition, he announced the party’s “Light Up Project”, which will initially install 300 solar-powered streetlights, with 100 allocated to each of Ogun’s three senatorial districts.
