President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has accused African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar of prioritising electoral victory over Nigeria’s long-term development.
Ajayi made the remarks on Tuesday in a post on X, where he contrasted Atiku’s political approach with what he described as President Tinubu’s focus on the country’s long-term economic sustainability.
The presidential aide also criticised Atiku and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing them of seeking to reverse the gains recorded under Tinubu through what he described as “misdirected populism.”
“While a typical politician like Atiku is always thinking of how to win election, by all means necessary, a statesman like Tinubu is thinking of long-term sustainability and development of the country,” Ajayi said.
He argued that the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms were producing “tangible and visible value” that was being recognised internationally.
Ajayi further claimed that Nigeria’s fiscal position and overall economic performance were stronger than they were in 2023, when Tinubu assumed office.
His comments come amid continued political debate over the direction of Nigeria’s economy and the policies of the Tinubu administration ahead of future elections.
