Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged the Onise of Ise, Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu, Okuoye VII, to sustain peace, responsible leadership and cooperation with government in Ibeju-Lekki.
Sanwo-Olu gave the charge when the monarch led members of the Onise-in-Council on a visit to the State House, Alausa, where they held a private meeting with the governor.
The governor commended the people of Ise and residents of the Ibeju-Lekki corridor for maintaining peace and supporting government initiatives in the area.
He also prayed for the success of the monarch’s reign, urging the traditional institution to remain a stabilising force as major investments and infrastructure projects continue to expand across the axis.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of sustainable grassroots governance, peaceful coexistence and collaboration between traditional institutions and government to create an environment conducive to development.
Responding, Oba Saliu pledged to continue supporting peace, security and investment in Ise, as well as the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ development agenda.
“As a traditional ruler and Chartered Accountant, I understand responsible leadership and accountability. Development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace,” the monarch said.
He highlighted the Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Deep Sea Port, Dangote Refinery and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as major projects located within the area, describing them as opportunities that also impose responsibilities on the host community.
“These investments present enormous opportunities but also responsibilities. As host community, we must provide the secure environment for businesses to thrive,” he said.
The monarch also presented a letter of appreciation to Sanwo-Olu for his support during his appointment and presentation of Staff of Office. He paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Oba Ganiu Adegbesan, and prayed for peaceful elections in Lagos State.
