Video of Izala Volunteers’ Alleged Violent Chants Sparks Concern

A video circulating on social media has sparked security concerns after members of a volunteer group reportedly linked to the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), popularly known as Izala, were seen chanting lyrics that appear to call for attacks on people in Enugu and Jos.

The footage, which gained attention on X on Sunday, shows a group of young men in brown uniforms and blue berets, reportedly members of the organisation’s Agaji volunteer wing.

In the video, one of the men leads a chant referencing an AK-47 rifle and describing plans to attack people labelled as “infidels” in Enugu, with lyrics referring to opening fire while worshippers gather on a Sunday.

The chant subsequently mentions Jos, repeating the reference to obtaining an AK-47 to kill people described as infidels. The singer concludes by referring to the activity as “the training”.

The exact date and location of the recording have not been independently verified. It is also unclear from the footage what circumstances led to the chant or whether it reflects any official position of JIBWIS or its Agaji volunteers.

The video has prompted reactions online, with concerns raised about the possibility of religiously motivated violence, particularly against Christian communities in Enugu and Jos.
