Sowore Accuses Tinubu Government of Silencing Critics After DSS Arrest

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using the Department of State Services (DSS) to suppress dissent following the arrest and arraignment of an Atiku Abubakar supporter over a fake letter attributed to the president.

The case involves Mubarak Abdullahi, popularly known as Sardaunan Samari, who was arrested after sharing on Facebook a document purportedly written by Tinubu to the United States president. He captioned the post, “ATIKU IS COMING.”

Reacting in a post on X, Sowore criticised the DSS for its involvement, questioning the use of a national security agency to target citizens expressing dissenting views.

“How on earth do you reduce a national security agency like the OfficialDSSNG to a mere vacuum cleaner, deployed to sweep up dissenting voices,” he wrote.

Sowore described the arrest as unfortunate, accusing the administration of avoiding public scrutiny and accountability over its performance.

The DSS has filed a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation against Abdullahi at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

According to reports on the case, Abdullahi admitted sharing the document and apologised. He was subsequently remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna.

Sowore warned that those responsible for the arrest and prosecution would eventually be held accountable, declaring, “A day of reckoning is coming, when you too will be held accountable for your actions.”
