United States-based singer Rihanna has blamed voter apathy for President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, arguing that people who failed to vote also contributed to his second-term victory.
Rihanna made the remarks while reacting to a viral clip of an interview featuring journalist Charles M. Blow and former MSNBC host Joy Reid.
During the conversation, Reid argued that Americans who voted for Trump should take responsibility for the financial controversies surrounding his administration.
Responding to the clip on Instagram, Rihanna said those who did not participate in the election also played a role in Trump’s victory and the economic difficulties she attributed to his administration.
“Believe it or not, those who didn’t vote at all, also did this!” the singer wrote.
Trump defeated Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, returning to office after losing his 2020 re-election bid to Joe Biden.
Despite living in the United States, Rihanna is not an American citizen and is therefore ineligible to vote in US federal elections.
