Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has told the founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche, that he will not refrain from discussing politics, even at church events.
Wike made the remarks on Friday during the commissioning of a pedestrian flyover constructed by the church at its headquarters in Abuja.
The minister said Enenche had cautioned him against discussing politics at the event, but argued that preaching about bad governance also amounted to political commentary.
Wike said the commissioning of a public infrastructure project should provide an opportunity to discuss issues affecting society, rather than simply offer prayers and express gratitude.
“Even in the church, when he preaches, he talks about bad governance, and that is politics,” Wike said.
He also recalled his first encounter with Enenche and his wife in 2015, when he invited the cleric to participate in a year-end programme of praise and thanksgiving while serving as governor.
