Oyo Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Ibadan Man’s Murder

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged murder of a 26-year-old man, Kehinde Asimiyu, following a fatal altercation at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.

The police said Asimiyu was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by one of the suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde, during a disagreement on November 1, 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the victim’s family was alerted to the incident by an unidentified motorcycle rider who arrived at their residence.

Police officers and a patrol team were subsequently deployed to the scene, while Asimiyu was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre.

The two suspects were identified as Babarinde, who is suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who was allegedly involved in the incident. Both are in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation.

The command also disclosed that the incident triggered unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost, with reports of threats by hoodlums prompting the deployment of additional security personnel.

The reinforcement included officers of the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other local security agencies. The police said the coordinated operation had restored normalcy, with security personnel remaining in the area to prevent further disturbances.

As part of efforts to address the tension, the Area Commander, Moniya, held a meeting with representatives of the local council, transport operators and youth leaders to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation with security agencies and maintaining peace.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, urged residents to remain calm, avoid violence and embrace dialogue in resolving disputes. He warned that anyone attempting to exploit the incident to disrupt public peace would face the full weight of the law.
