Suspected thugs have attacked supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a campaign rally in Delta State, leaving some people injured and others dispossessed of their belongings.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the rally venue, where the attackers reportedly disrupted the gathering and damaged a vehicle parked nearby.

Footage of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, showed supporters fleeing in different directions to escape the attack.

Some participants reportedly sustained injuries during the ensuing confusion, while others lost their mobile phones and personal belongings as they tried to flee.

A voice heard in the viral video condemned the attack, saying the supporters had gathered peacefully to campaign and were not looking for confrontation.

“We came here to campaign in peace. We did not come to fight anybody. What happened today is not good for democracy,” the unidentified speaker said.

There was no immediate information on the identity of the attackers or whether security agencies had made any arrests.
