
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Layi Olanrewaju, Kwara State correspondent for The Sun newspaper.
Olanrewaju, who also served as a former chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), died on Friday following a brief illness.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described the death of the veteran journalist as shocking.
The Vice Chancellor praised Olanrewaju as a diligent media professional and a close friend of the University, noting his efforts to promote the institution through positive reporting of events and personalities.
Prof. Egbewole highlighted the late journalist’s commitment to using his platform to advance the interests of the University and enhance its public image.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Olanrewaju’s family, friends, and colleagues, urging them to find comfort in his exemplary life and professional legacy.
The Vice Chancellor prayed for God’s mercy on the soul of the veteran journalist and that he may rest in perfect peace.
