An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died following an accident involving operational vehicles during an exercise, the agency has confirmed.
The incident, which was captured in a 58-second video circulating on social media on Saturday, shows two vans belonging to the Corps’ Female Strike Force moving in formation. During a turn, the lead vehicle reportedly ran over a female officer, trapping her beneath it.
The footage shows fellow officers and bystanders attempting to lift the van before the injured officer was moved into a waiting ambulance.
NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the fatality in a telephone conversation with TheCable but did not disclose the identity of the deceased officer.
Babawale said a detailed report would be released to clarify the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures during operational drills and is expected to prompt an internal review of protocols within the Corps.
