BREAKING NEWS: Kidnappers Threaten To Kill Six Abducted Church Members in Ondo

Kidnappers who abducted six members of the Celestial Church of Christ, Jordan Parish, in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have threatened to kill the victims if a N10 million ransom is not paid by 1 p.m. on Monday, sources say.

The worshippers were seized last Wednesday during an early-morning prayer service when armed men stormed the church along the Benin–Owo Expressway, forcing congregants to flee before whisking the victims away.

According to people familiar with the situation, the abductors warned that all six captives would be killed if the deadline passes without payment. The church and community reportedly raised the demanded sum after the pastor sold his car and other assets to contribute to the effort.

“The kidnappers have given a deadline of 1pm on Monday for the payment. They threatened to kill everyone if the money is not delivered,” a source said.

Despite the funds being raised, residents said there is uncertainty over how the ransom will be delivered safely. They also accused the Ondo State Government and security agencies of failing to intervene effectively.

Sources claimed police officers visited the scene shortly after the abduction but have not maintained a presence or provided further support. They also criticised what they described as inaccurate claims about rescue efforts.

“There has been no meaningful action from the government or security agencies. The situation remains tense, and threats continue,” one source said.

Kidnappers have reportedly threatened to return to the area to abduct more people, allegedly targeting the church pastor next. Residents expressed fear that even attempts to deliver the ransom could put more lives at risk.

The abduction adds to growing insecurity in Ondo State. It occurred days after armed men kidnapped a couple in nearby Akure North Local Government Area, intensifying concerns over repeated attacks across communities.

An eyewitness shared photos and videos of the aftermath on social media, describing the incident as part of a broader security challenge. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen patrols and take urgent action to secure the release of the victims.
