D’Tigress Rally Past Philippines at FIBA Qualifiers

Nigeria women’s national basketball team fought back from a halftime deficit to defeat the Philippines women’s national basketball team 101–84 in their third match of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament on Saturday.

The African champions struggled early in the game, allowing the Philippines to claim the opening quarter 25–21. The Southeast Asian side maintained the momentum and carried a 51–42 lead into halftime.

Nigeria, however, responded strongly after the break. Led by head coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress dominated the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 34–21 to overturn the deficit.

They continued the surge in the final quarter, restricting the Philippines to just 12 points while adding 25 to their tally to seal a convincing victory and surpass the 100-point mark.

The win came after Nigeria’s earlier setback in the tournament, when they suffered a 77–60 defeat to Colombia women’s national basketball team on Thursday.

D’Tigress will face France women’s national basketball team in their next game on Sunday before concluding their qualifying campaign against Germany women’s national basketball team on Monday.
