The Ogun State Government has announced plans to disburse ₦35 million in cash grants to more than 500 women as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, said 50 women would receive ₦200,000 each, while another 500 beneficiaries would get ₦50,000 each. She disclosed this during the state’s IWD event held at the Royal Pavilion in Ijebu-Ode, which attracted over 5,000 participants.
At the event, women’s groups in the state also declared support for the re-election bid of Bola Tinubu and the senatorial ambition of Dapo Abiodun for the Ogun East Senatorial District seat.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele said women in the state remained committed to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as inclusive and beneficial to women’s participation in social and economic activities.
“Policies of President Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administrations at the federal and state levels have significantly benefited women, with measurable gains in social inclusion, economic participation and access to opportunities,” she said.
Salako-Oyedele also called for greater female representation in governance, expressing confidence that Nigeria would eventually produce a female governor to strengthen women’s sense of inclusion in leadership.
In her address, Adeleye noted that the 2026 IWD celebration coincided with activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State, describing the milestone as a reminder of women’s contributions to the state’s development across sectors.
She also acknowledged the contributions of Oluremi Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Initiative and the Ajose Foundation led by Bamidele Abiodun, saying both programmes had strengthened women’s empowerment efforts in the state.
Guest speaker Abiodun Olujimi described the event’s theme, “Give to Gain,” as timely and called for urgent action to address systemic barriers limiting women’s political participation, noting that female representation in Nigerian politics remains low.
Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun said the theme highlighted the link between women’s advancement and national development, urging women to support one another and remain active in efforts to expand opportunities for future generations.
