Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser to Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, has said Nigeria is facing deeper challenges now than when the current administration assumed office in 2023.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the country’s worsening security situation and economic conditions, arguing that the government has not met key expectations set at the start of its tenure.
“We are in deeper trouble than when you came. Violence is becoming a lot more serious than we anticipated,” he said, noting what he described as an escalation in the scale and impact of insecurity across the country.
He recalled that the administration came into office with commitments to improve security and living conditions for Nigerians but said those promises had yet to be fully realised.
Baba-Ahmed also referenced recent attacks in Borno State, describing them as among the most serious incidents recorded in recent times and raising concerns about their timing in relation to an official trip by the president and senior government officials to the United Kingdom.
He argued that the developments highlight the urgency of stronger responses to insecurity and improved governance outcomes.
The presidency has not issued an official reaction to Baba-Ahmed’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
