Alex Otti has directed that all first-class graduates from the 30th, 31st and 32nd combined convocation ceremonies of Abia State University be employed as Graduate Assistants after completing their National Youth Service.
Speaking during the convocation ceremony on Friday in Uturu, the governor said graduates from any department who attained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.25 and above would also be eligible for appointment as Graduate Assistants.
Otti further announced that the 69 first-class graduates from the institution would receive postgraduate scholarships covering Master’s to PhD studies in any public university in Nigeria, provided they accept the lecturing positions.
He also directed that 100 outstanding graduates from the combined convocation be absorbed into the Abia State civil service as part of efforts to retain academic talent within the state.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Ndukwe Okeudo, commended the governor for restoring electricity to the institution after more than a decade of outage and for executing other infrastructure projects on campus.
